Life is a collection of many smaller memories rolled up into a seemingly bigger event and the whole point of travel is to experience new things that make for a solid memory bank. Let's be honest there's no such thing as cheap travel at least not in my impressive experience but with a few pointers in mind, you can be frugal, soak it all in and make some amazing experiences along the way! Here are five tip that will see you travel without burning a hole in your pocket!

Timing is key

Weekends and the holidays is a no go zone. Flights and hotel operators are no fools, like everyone else they are in business to make bank and the weekend and holidays are just the time to cash in. If you can, make your travel plans to fall in the midweek and acquaint yourself with your destination's off peak season. You will not only end up paying much lesser than normal for your stay and travel but will also escape the hassle of crowds and ques , saving you so much time in the process and with post covid travel , this might just be a way to wade off unnecessary human interactions!

I can bet you every famous place on earth has something you can experience without paying. I mean you can sit on the lawn right in front of the Eiffel Tower and soak in the magnificence without having to spend your day queuing and jostling to get to the top!

Air BnB your way through your stay

I know I know, we all want an epic view and a five star meal right! Well, travel is slowly moving away from "instagramable moments" and more toward the value of the experience and just because you opt for accommodation options outside of the mainstream hotel industry doesn't mean you compromise on quality, safety, sanitation and experience. With the alternatives of renting a room, an entire house, flat, villa Air BnB offers you the amenities of a home a way from home, again think post Covid19 travel! I say stick with Air BnB but depending on your level of comfort you might also want to consider hostels ( they make for inexpensive accommodation) and even couch surfing! Apparently its a thing, you get to meet and stay with locals in exchange for friendships and experiences, you might want to check your interpersonal skills beforehand. If you love notice I said love not like connecting and interacting with other human this might be right up your alley.

Self Drive

Consider self drive destinations within proximity and you can drive down in your own car or rent one. Camping lovers can rent a camper instead and that takes care of your accommodation as well. If traveling far out, it can be fun figuring your way out through the local commute. Some countries have quite developed local commute systems that will save you the cost of moving around. You can switch between rentals and the local modes of transport and balance it all out so its still fun but convenient and not just about counting the cents.

The Spirit of Adventure

This will require you to do your research with the objective being to find as many free to low cost activities as possible. There's so many ways to experience the beauty of places and I can bet you every famous place on earth has something you can experience without paying. I mean you can sit on the lawn right in front of the Eiffel Tower and soak in the magnificence without having to spend your day queuing and jostling to get to the top, same way you can tour a food market without a guide or browse through a free entry museum, you can catch a view of the Great Rift Valley and visit the beautiful Italian smallest church in Kenya for free, heck you can absolutely view the Colosseum for free!

Be Street Wise

A people's food is at the core of the fabric of who they truly are. The saying we are what we eat has never been more correct! I try to find a local delicacy wherever I go and while sometimes my taste buds repel with a passion, I have found that the more local you get with the food in a foreign land, the more wholesome an experience you'll gift yourself. Mainly because more often than not the best authentic local delicacy will not be found in some five star hotel or fancy restaurant chain but in the most interesting characterful smaller food vendors full of even more characterful people.

Cutting down on unnecessary expenses without taking away from your overall travel experience is what you need and with a little nip here and a tack there, you can still have a wholesome experience without breaking the bank.
