What to wear to the airport

The airports are opening up and it’s finally time to feel the sun on your face and if you are a typical Kenyan, Covid-19 or not I bet on my bum shorts that painfully no longer fit that you are soon going to be headed for the Coast aka Mombasa raha or somewhere within the environs of the Kenyan Coast.

While you can picture yourself strutting through airport security in your high heels, leather pants and cool blouse just like a housewife franchise reality star, that's a very fashion forward dream but are you flying via private plane and being escorted to a first-class lounge? No? Good!

Now, of course we can’t all travel first class so you go on, book your cheap seat but even those of us heading to economy do not want to dress economy! And, are sick and tired of never knowing what to wear when travelling.

So you have decided on a couple of bikinis to strut your summer body for the ideally long beach strolls complete with a larger than life sun hut and statement sunglasses just perfect for perching by the poolside like a delicate bird afraid of the pool water, a bunch of colorful sundresses in florals, fruit print and polkadots because you know the common hotel guest breakfasts run for a specific period of time and mingling with all these strangers or brunch with the girls or family are about your sun dress game right?

And of course a couple of hot pants because aside from the occasional round the house try ons to break them in but mostly just to check if you’ve grown fat and its time for the hopeless one week crush diet that won’t work anyway but it doesn’t hurt to try, where else will you wear them anyway?!

But just what do you wear on the flight? A lot of advice tend to focus on functionality when it comes to dressing for a flight but I say don't throw fashion out of the window. The key is finding a balance, you neither want to look business smart nor do you want to look scruffy. You can dress with a bit of style while still keeping conscious of comfort because let's face it, deep vein thrombosis is a real danger on flights.

Save your skinny jeans for later and opt for less restrictive garments like this comfortable pair of Bamans stretch skinny leg dress pants . They are easy to pull on, the fabric is super soft, 4 way stretch and come with a tummy control that wont roll down, so you have extreme comfort in flight and can still look good stepping off the plane once you disembark.

Planes are uncomfortable and can get cold so you want to bring with you as much comfort as you can, a blanket shawl is one of those things. Comfortable and functional this plum feathers pashmina scarf (convertible shawl or scarf) that can double as a blanket is a necessity for every female traveler. Made from the most luxurious of fabrics 70% Pashmina and 30% silk, its extremely soft to the touch, warm and cozy a perfect layering accessory to complete your airplane look.

Think of your poor feet and luckily or unluckily you are not a housewife reality star so save the heels for the drunken late night sprees, it is best to wear extremely comfortable, flat shoes on the plane. You'll also want to select shoes that are easy to slip on and off when passing through airport security and the afridrille range from Ubuntu carried by the DAC store stylishly make for happy feet.

Now that you are all put together, think of the luggage as your weapon. Anything that bears the label jokajok will argue the case for an instant upgrade should the opportunity present itself.

Travel Tip:

Whichever way you get out of the fashion jam that is #whattowearonaplane, put together your #airportfashion with comfort and style in mind. Don't throw fashion out the window. ⠀⠀⠀
